About Lt. Arthur E. Lasker:
On August 10, 1945, the day after the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, 61 other pilots climbed into their P-38's to carry on the war. Under the command of Col. Emmett "Cyclone" Davis, the fighters took off from the small island of le Shima off the coast of Okinawa for a napalm bombing and strafing run on the city of Kumamoto. It was Laskers' final mission of the war as 4 days later, August 14, Japan surrendered. With 2 confirmed and 2 probable aerial victories and numerous ground strafing strikes, Lasker was awarded the Air Medal and 3 Battle Stars.
