Plane Type: Republic RC-3 Seabee

In anticipation of thousands of military pilots returning home to the U.S., many aircraft manufacturers designed and built light sport and utility aircraft at the end of World War II. One such design was the now-classic Republic RC-3 Seabee amphibian, named in honor of the U.S. Navy combat engineers who achieved fame during the war. Capable of carrying five people and cruising at speeds of more than 100 mph, the Seabee became known as a "flying houseboat," and of the 1,063 total built from 1946 to 1948, more than 200 Seabees are still flying in many places around the world today. Many have been upgraded and customized including newly-built versions powered by Corvette engines.
